As a photographer you are always learning and finding new ways to improve your creativity. January is a quiet month in a wedding photographers world. Once you have caught up on your editing it’s time to reflect on the year just gone and plan for the year ahead.

To reach the next level in my career I know how important it is to create those stunning shots which will wow your clients. Even if you prefer using natural light, off camera flash is vital for any photographer to master. Light no matter where it comes from makes a great image- fact!

Chris Chambers is an award winning photographer based in Leeds. I joined him for a day’s training session at Hazelwood castle where I met with other fellow wedding photographers. Chris is known for creating dramatic wedding images which gives him his unique style.

The images below were all produced on his course. They show different lighting situations from on camera flash to off camera flash and video light. As you can see it is possible to produce dramatic images even during the day by making the sky look very moody.

Personally I think the style of some of these images clashes with my natural look that I brand myself on. I do however love doing night time portraits which was part of the reason I wanted to extend my skills. The last shot taken in the rain is definitely my favourite from the day.

Look out for more night time shoots with my 2016 wedding couples very soon!
